Open Question: How does a person with aspergers syndrome become a detective?

by John Kernstein on September 8, 2010

In order to be a detective you have to be a cop first. But the problem is that aspies like myself tend to gain anxiety through stress work. I can work under stress the problem is I may not survive when a person points a gun at me or there's a shooting going on. Procedurally, I think I can pull a gun, but I would be scared out of my mind. Also aspies are accident prone. As an aspie I can work well with logic and analyzing situations and figuring out investigation. I could be a PI. But I live in DE and having your own agency requires four year of criminal investigation experience. And no agency would be willing to hire a person without a degree or experience investigation. I have been informally educating myself on criminal investigation by reading books and watching tv. I can tell the difference between reality and fiction. I pay attention more on how they find evidence and how they determine the crime and who did it and who to ask with that evidence and with that information. I know there isn't an easy path. I'm just looking for room I can around in to give me a chance.
