Open Question: is this legal? what should i do?
im a freshman in college and i live 6 hours away from campus and obviously couldnt commute so i had no choice but to live in the dorms. this is fine cause my dorm is great and i love it here but to get into the dorms i was required to purchase a meal plan. for most people the meal plan is fine but my eating habits are a total mess and i have random obscure nutritional needs, ethical dilemmas, allergies, taste preferences, etc that really prevent me from eating like a normal person. fortunately there is a cubs foods less than 10 minutes from the dorm so ive been able to select exactly what i eat and eat a lot healthier while saving money by buying groceries and preparing my own meals. the dining service offers a guarantee of satisfaction with their meals and has a window of time in which changes in meal plans can be made. i requested they cancel my plan as i am not eating at the cafeterias but they refuse to refund me my $3000! as a student who is now paying for groceries, i simply cannot afford to spend $3000 on something that i am not using. i have tried to negotiate with the people in charge but they seem more motivated by profit than the students satisfaction. is this fair at all? i had no choice but to agree to the meal plan or else i wouldnt have anywhere to live and now theyre charging me for it even though i dont eat there. is this even legal? what should i do? should i contact a lawyer? how would i go about doing this? all advice is much appreciated as i am pretty much desperate at this point to recover my $3000
