Open Question: Pls answer my question about my good friend ?

by John Kernstein on September 18, 2009

So I have a friend who says he wants to join the military. He tried going once but didn't get accepted because he was honest and told them he attemptd suicide 2 times and was hospitalized . He was also on and off mess and recently he stopped taking them in order to get in. I thought that people who used to take anti psychotic and meds to control their mood swings are automatically disqualified ? He tells me he will lie about his past suicide attempts. I feel he shouldn't lie and when I try to change his mind he claims I think he isn't good enough to join which is highly untrue I just don't think someone wih that past history should be trusted to serve . His recruiter told him not to mention the suicide attempts at all at the physical because he went two years ago to join they denied him cuz he told them everything so they checked his medical records and disqualified him. He has bipolar and anxiety depersonalization but he doesn't believe he does and thinks he is normal and stable since he doesn't rely on meds to help him. I am worried for him and don't think he should join something that is a serious commitment. what will happen and will he get in trouble for joining? He said military is his dream and believes it won't harmhim but how can his recruiter trust someone like that? Sorry the info I put is long but I just need to know how they can accept or even work with someone who has to lie ?
